Unbiased point of view...

This one speaks for itself:

I don't agree with your position on Prop 8 (or the similar propositions in other states), but I respect it and understand it to a point. What I cannot understand, however, are the protests at LDS Temples. In truth, it sickens me. I'm curious as to your take on these protests?

I think this is one of those situations where people are extremely hurt by the actions of the church which have directly affected their families. Do I agree with their decision to retaliate against the church in this way? NO! Do I understand why they would? ABSOLUTELY! I don't think Prop 8 would have passed without the help from members of the church. I think it's a really sad situation but I don't see how the church can be surprised by this response.
What I really wish could happen would be a lot more respect and understanding on both sides of the fence. It is disrespectful to shout and make a scene in front of a religious edifice no matter how justified someone may feel. It is, however, the right of citizens to peacefully protest and I just hope that things stay peaceful.
Heather, I wish I had all the answers but all I know is what I feel in my heart. When I see people protesting in front of the temple I feel like it's wrong. When I see people rallying to take the right to marry away from a loving couple I also feel like it's wrong. Can't we all just get along?!

I know. This whole thing saddens me. I know it's naive and kind of dumb, but I often just want to pretend like none of this is going on and wish, like you, that we could all just get along.

Believe me Heather...so do I. We are both peace-loving people and I don't think what is going on around us has to change that. I haven't taken a poll or anything but most of my gay friends oppose the idea of protesting in front of the temples. It's always that group of extremists that makes a scene and if it was my place to apologize for their behavior I guess I would.
This issue doesn't change who we are--children of a God who loves us unconditionally. Let's look at everyone through God's eyes and I know we can work through this time of strife.

Come on Allen, seriously, lets move on..... If you spent the same amount of time trying to better your country instead of dwelling whats already done you could do so much good, MOVE ON!!

Hey Jessie,
I will definitely try to spend time "trying to better [our] country" and (in the midst of our current political environment) these last few posts are important topics to discuss. Believe me, there are about a million other things going on in my life right now and, although important, this is not my primary focus. I find it very interesting that you would tell me to "move on." I really didn't expect that from you. I will ALWAYS respect your opinion and show interest in what matters to you in your life because I consider you a friend.

I too also consider you a friend, although we obviously have HUGE disagreements, I too respect your opinion. I have a VERY open mind as you know and I like to listen to BOTH sides of every story before making my decision. My decision on this topic is very strong. Curious though, why do you find it odd that I say "move on". I do hope all is well in your life, and I appreciate the nice comment you left on my blog. How is the job working out for you? You still at Target?

Yeah, I'm actually really loving Target! They are great company to work for and the people I work with are positive and uplifting. I'm really happy that I have a job in this difficult time...what a blessing :-)
Yeah, I know you're such an open-minded person and I actually love it when people respond to controversy with an educated response to my opinions so never hesitate. I guess I felt it a little strange that you feel like I should "move on" as this issue is still a major controversy and it's not even close to over. I AM gonna move on though because I have some cool stuff to talk about on my next post :-) I'm tired of politics...for now LOL
